Vulcan Elements manufactures permanent NdFeB magnets, which convert electricity into motion and are used in motors, actuators, sensors, generators, data-storage systems, and other advanced equipment. The company identifies defense systems, satellites, semiconductor fabrication equipment, AI data centers, robotics, industrial motors, consumer electronics, power tools, and automotive applications as target markets. Its current business is best understood as qualified component manufacturing rather than mining or raw-material separation: Vulcan sources separated rare-earth oxides and converts them into finished sintered magnets. The company opened its Durham manufacturing facility in March 2025 and reported approximately 10 metric tonnes of annual capacity later that year. By August 2025, it said it had secured more than $10 million across nine Department of Defense contracts and was delivering magnets into priority programs through direct awards, primes, and subcontractors. Vulcan has not disclosed current revenue, customer concentration, production yields, unit costs, gross margins, or a 2026 operating-capacity figure. State and company announcements describe a roughly $918 million to $1 billion, approximately one-million-square-foot facility designed for 10,000 metric tonnes of annual magnet production and 1,000 jobs.
